Conversions vs. Traffic: Which is more important?

If you're just starting out, you should aim to get as much traffic as possible to gather more data. However, both of these metrics are equally as important to any established business - if you have little traffic, you'll have less customers to covert. If your conversion rate is below average, you'll find competition hard.
