Does Shopify charge for shipping?

I'm confused. I heard that Shopify offers free shipping, but then others say that they do charge for shipping? Can someone with Shopify experience tell me whether they charge for shipping or not? Or is it that they charge but also offer a way to offer free shipping?

It depends on the Shopify store owner on how they’ll charge shipping. You can choose free shipping by setting a flat rate to $0.00 or you can mix free shipping with shipping rates. For example, you can set shipping rates of $4 for orders under $100 and free shipping for orders above $100.
