How do I add COGS to my WooCommerce store?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi, is there a cost of goods plugin that I can use on my WooCommerce store? If there is, is it free, or do I have to pay for it?

The Cost of Goods for the WooCommerce plugin has both the free and paid plan options. The free plan main features are:

  1. sets cost of goods for your goods
  2. import and export product costs to and from a CSV file
  3. add "cost of goods" meta box to admin page
  4. use the add stock tool that automatically calculates average product costs
  5. see profit/costs columns on WooCommerce Analytics section

WooCommerce's detailed COGs report offers you all the data you need to boost your profits, including insights on your best and least successful sellers. All you need is to introduce a field of Cost of Goods to simple and variable products.

Here's how you can add COGs to your WooCommerce store:

  1. From your WooCommerce dashboard, download the "WooCommerce Customer / Order / Coupon Export" extension.
  2. Navigate to Plugins > Add New > Upload and choose the ZIP file you have downloaded.
  3. Now click Install Now and Activate.
  4. Hit Configure link to configure your cost settings.
  5. Lastly, set a "Cost" for any products you sell.

You will be able to introduce a cost to your products while editing them, but it should just be the cost of manufacturing the item, not tax or shipping.

Another useful plugin is "Cost of Goods for WooCommerce by WP factor". This is a premium plugin starting from $39.99 only. It allows you to save WooCommerce product's purchase costs (i.e., cost of goods sold).
