How can I segment my customers to better understand how different groups respond to different types of discount campaigns?

You can segment your customers in just about any way you wish, however, there are a few segmentations that you should strongly consider, and which will provide extremely valuable insight into your customer's behavior.

Some groups you may consider segmenting your customers into include:

  • Demographics: Factors including age, gender, race, marital status, occupation, etc.
  • Geographic: Based on the location the customer lives and works
  • Psychographic: Follows preferences such as hobbies, culture, personality types, and lifestyle
  • Technographic: Segmentation according to the devices your customers use
  • Behavioral: Segmented according to how your customers behave on your site, for example, new vs returning customers

These are just a few suggestions. The best way forward is to experiment and find what works best for you and our audience.
