Direct conversion, also known as Last Click Conversion, is users' last contact with a channel that leads to final action. It means that no other medium intervened between the time someone saw your ad and made a purchase. Therefore, all the profits associated with that action will be credited to that channel. These figures are also directly correlated with the role of that channel as an initiator of sales.
