What is a custom variable in Google Analytics, and how do I create one?

Custom variables are name-value pair labels that are incorporated into the tracking code. It helps in improving and filtering Google Analytics tracking and provides an additional degree of control. You can easily divide all visitors based on factors such as a product name, a price value, or a date — filters different from what Google Analytics already offers.
