Can somebody please explain to me how linear multi-touch marketing attribution models are supposed to work?

The linear attribution model assigns touch points evenly throughout the customer journey. For example, if there are 5 touch points that the customer went through to make a conversion then each touch will get (100% / 5) 20%.
